The one I most remember was a blond hair doll with her eyes closed. The lighthouse she drew as a place of refuge its light blinds the rocks as she and the boy make their escape. Aside from obvious tourist references to Italy, most of these other novels do not give the reader any sense of the Italian character, culture, or bureaucracy.

I will let you know if I decide to order it. They had a male adult who went along with them--he could have been a retired seaman. What I really like about this story is there wasn’t one mystery but three mysteries and they did not put any old chapter heading – they had Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Contains one of the most touching cat-death scenes (Aramantha's) I've ever read.

I distinctly remember the part about the children calculating the distance they're travelling by counting the number of times the wagon wheels go around. The illustrations are beautiful, the sewing impossible. Author, title, and webcat link for about 275 books. The German 'American-English' series included the release of Poisoned E-Mail and The Curse of the Cell Phone. The boy, who spents all his time exploring the depths of the marsh, floats to a deep unknown part of the swamp and the descriptions take on a surreal, dream-like quality as he slips into the ancient undisturbed heart of the marsh.
